This African American family traces to Mathews County, Virginia, and is one of the few such famiiies with records that precede the Civil War. The early appearance of William in the records, and the stability of his family for 20 years preceding the Civil War, and along with the fact they owned personal estate, may mean this was a free family; this free status was perhaps related to their classification as Mulattos. There were two contemporary European Parrott families in Mathews County -- that of Lawrence (#061) and that of John (#042) who originally settled on St. George's Island before his descendants moved to Mathews.

COBBS CREEK - Allie Parrott, 85, died Wednesday in Walter Reed Memorial Hospital, Gloucester, after a long illness. He was a native of Mathews County and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, and Silver Leaf Masonic Lodge No. 177, Mathews.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mercedes Morse of Hampton; a sister, Mrs. Mary Pollard, and a brother, Russell Parrott, both of Balitmore, Md.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ebebezer Baptist Church by the Rev. D.C. Wright. Burial, with Masonic rites, will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday by Knight Funeral Home, Mathews.
